Editorial Policy

Editorial Purpose

EduScores publishes factual reference material about PISA results and international student assessment data.

The editorial focus is on accuracy, traceability and useful interpretation. Pages are structured around the data available for the subject rather than around a fixed article template.

Primary Sources

Official OECD PISA sources are preferred whenever they contain the required information.

Source links are included where practical so readers can review the underlying report, statistical table, database or technical documentation.

A third-party article is not treated as the authority for a figure that can be checked against the original PISA source.

Numbers Before Narrative

Tables and underlying figures are established before analytical conclusions are presented.

Analysis is included when the available data supports a meaningful pattern, change or contrast. A chart or explanatory box is not included simply because a page contains numerical data.

Basic facts such as the highest score, lowest score or numerical rank may be useful, but they are not treated as advanced analysis by themselves.

Neutral Interpretation

EduScores does not classify countries as educational successes or failures solely because they are above or below an OECD average.

A benchmark difference is reported as a statistical comparison, not as an automatic judgment about the quality of an education system.

The same principle applies to score changes. Increases and declines are interpreted in the context of comparability, uncertainty and statistical significance where those details are available.

Causal Claims

PISA is primarily an observational assessment.

Relationships involving school policies, technology use, socio-economic background, student behaviour or other contextual factors are not described as causal unless the evidence being cited supports a causal conclusion.

Terms such as associated with, related to and corresponded with are used when the evidence is descriptive.

Corrections and Revisions

Errors in figures, calculations, labels or interpretation are corrected when identified.

A page may also be revised after a new PISA database, statistical annex, technical report or official clarification becomes available.

The purpose of a correction is to bring the page into line with the strongest available evidence.

Use of Automated Tools

Automated tools may assist with tasks such as structuring information, checking consistency, processing tables or preparing explanatory text.

Automated output is not treated as a factual source. Published claims are expected to remain grounded in identifiable source material and verifiable data.

Claims that cannot be supported by the underlying evidence should not be presented as established facts.

Independence

EduScores is independent from the OECD, PISA and participating education authorities.

Editorial decisions about page structure, derived calculations, explanatory notes and visual presentation are made independently. Official organisations remain the authority for their own datasets, reports, definitions and technical standards.
