About EduScores

What EduScores Covers

EduScores is an independent reference site focused on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The site brings together country and economy results, subject scores, rankings, proficiency data, long-term trends and other indicators published through PISA. The purpose is to make international assessment data easier to read without reducing it to a single rank or headline number.

PISA results are reported across different subjects, assessment cycles and student groups. A score can describe the estimated performance of a participating system, but it does not describe every student, explain why a result changed or prove that a particular education policy caused an outcome.

EduScores keeps those distinctions visible throughout its tables, charts and analysis.

Data and Analysis

Most core figures presented on EduScores come from official OECD PISA publications, databases, statistical tables and technical documentation.

Some values may be calculated from official data. These can include score changes between assessment cycles, differences from an OECD benchmark, percentage-point changes, subgroup gaps and other descriptive comparisons.

When a figure is calculated rather than published directly in an OECD table, it is treated as a derived value rather than an official OECD statistic.

Tables are kept as complete as the underlying data allows. Missing, unavailable or non-comparable observations are not replaced with estimates simply to complete a ranking.

Charts are used when they make a pattern easier to understand. They are not intended to replace the underlying data or create a stronger conclusion than the evidence supports.

Rankings Need Context

PISA scores are estimates based on samples of students. Countries or economies with similar reported mean scores may not be statistically distinguishable from one another.

For that reason, a numerical ordering should not automatically be read as proof that one education system performs meaningfully better than the system immediately above or below it.

A displayed rank is an ordering of reported estimates, not a guarantee that every adjacent position represents a statistically meaningful difference.

Country and Economy Coverage

EduScores generally follows the country and economy terminology used in the relevant PISA release.

Participation changes between assessment cycles. Some systems enter PISA later than others, some have missing cycles, and some results are reported for specific territories, regions or participating jurisdictions rather than sovereign states.

Historical pages therefore use the years for which relevant PISA data is actually available rather than implying continuous participation.

Independence

EduScores is an independent website. It is not operated by, sponsored by or officially affiliated with the OECD, PISA or any national education authority.

References to the OECD, PISA, participating countries, economies and education systems are used for identification, reporting and source attribution.

Corrections and Updates

International assessment datasets can be revised, clarified or supplemented after publication. Tables, explanatory text and derived calculations may therefore be updated when a more authoritative source becomes available or an error is identified.

The current version of a page is intended to reflect the strongest available source material.
